A message from the Governor of Yamagata Prefecture

I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake, and I pray for the souls of those who lost their lives in this terrible disaster.
Joining with the rest of northeast Japan in fighting on through these hard times, Yamagata is doing everything that it can to aid the thousands of people who have lost their homes and their lives.
Yamagata is constantly inspecting its air, water, and soil, as well as its agricultural produce and livestock, for any evidence of radioactive contamination and to ensure its safety.

Visiting northeastern Japan yourself is the best way to support the affected areas.
I ask you to help support northeastern Japan by coming and enjoying Yamagata's delicious and safe foods, such as our seasonal cherries, or letting your stress melt away while soaking in one of our plentiful hot springs.
We hope that you will join us in our celebrations of life and community.
