Other Information Formally known as Hoju-san Risshaku-ji, this temple founded by the Buddhist priest Jikaku Daishi is well known as being one of the places where the famous haiku poet Matsuo Basho visited during his sojourn in Tohoku and left a famous haiku, "How quiet it is! Penetrating the rock cliffs, Sound of cicadas." A nationally designated scenic spot.
