The Sanno-sha (shrine) consists of an upper and lower shrine, both moved here from the Miyanoura district, and have existed for over 350 years. Since the family in charge of the ceremony changed hands every year, this festival used to be the scene of extravagant expenditure by the wealthy merchant families of old Sakata. Still today the gorgeous floats and decorations used in the ceremonial procession are put on display in front of the family chosen to host the yearly festival. |
