Kubo Sakura (Nagai City)

April is a month of new beginnings in Japan. While the New Year does start in January, the academic and financial years end in March and begin in April. April is the start of a new school year. It is a time of changes in the workplace, and it is when recently hired employees start their new jobs.
April is also the time when cherry blossoms (sakura) begin to bloom throughout all of Japan. People look forward to the coming changes in their lives along with the blooming of the cherry blossoms. The cherry blossoms begin to bloom in southern Japan in late March, and as the spring weather heads north they gradually start to bloom throughout the rest of the country. Cherry blossoms can usually be seen in Yamagata during mid-April.
Along with the cherry blossoms come flower viewing parties. During flower viewing parties, people have a fun time eating boxed lunches and drinking together under trees blooming with spring flowers. If you come to visit Yamagata during this season, you can see and experience these flower viewing parties for yourself throughout the prefecture. Drinking with your friends under a cherry blossom tree in bloom is an unforgettable experience.
We are happy to continue to provide you with information about Yamagata Prefecture throughout the year.
